White_house_residenceUpon completing the oath of office and raising his hand from the Bible at noon on Jan. 20, Donald Trump, besides becoming the 45th American president, became the ninth U.S. commander in chief to have attended the Kentcky Derby.

Trump attended in 1999 with his then-girlfriend and now First Lady Melania Knauss. According to a Lexington Herald-Leader photograph, the president wore a button supporting 14th-place finisher Stephen Got Even.

The only sitting president to attend the Derby remains Richard Nixon.

The others who attended outside of their terms in office are: Harry Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush.
